Affiliated with Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS), Bangalore and recognized by the National Medical Commission (NMC) (formerly MCI).
Location & Establishment
Located at SJM Campus, NH‑4 Bypass Road, Chitradurga, Karnataka – 577502, the college was established in 1999–2001 by SJM Vidyapeetha to cater to underserved regions of the district.
It remains the only full-fledged medical college in the district.
MBBS (Undergraduate)
The MBBS program spans 4.5 years of academics + 1-year internship totaling 5.5 years.
There are 150 MBBS seats, distributed among quotas: approximately 15% All India Quota (AIQ) and 85% State Quota.
Postgraduate (MD/MS)
BMCH offers a wide range of PG programs across various specialties including Anatomy, Pathology, Medicine, Surgery, Paediatrics, Dermatology, Orthopaedics, Radiology, Psychiatry, Forensic Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Community Medicine, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Ophthalmology, Anaesthesiology, and Respiratory Medicine .
Total PG seats are distributed across different subjects; for instance, MD General Medicine (4 seats), MS Surgery (4 seats), etc.
Hospital
The teaching hospital has a 500-bed capacity (some sources mention up to 740 beds), offering multi-specialty services and serving a substantial daily out-patient volume.
Educational Infrastructure
Lecture halls: Four main air-conditioned lecture theatres in college plus one in the hospital equipped with modern audio-visual and e-class facilities.
Additional infrastructure: Examination hall with CCTV, modern operation theatres (10 OTs), blood bank, museums (e.g., anatomy and pathology specimens), eye bank, library with electronic resources.
Hostels & Campus Amenities
Multiple separate hostels for UG boys and girls, PG students, nurses, and staff (capacity over 600, with reading rooms, visitor spaces, indoor games, separate mess facilities).
Other facilities include a central library, staff quarters, transportation (buses), auditorium (400+ capacity), cafeteria, sports grounds, and anti-ragging committees.
Library: Over ~2,418 m², hundreds of books, journals (national & international), e‑resources, computers, and reading spaces.
