Symbiosis Medical College for Women (SMCW), Pune
Symbiosis Medical College for Women (SMCW) is a private medical college exclusively for women, situated within the 350-acre Lavale hilltop campus of Symbiosis International (Deemed University) in Pune, Maharashtra. Established in 2020 by Professor Dr. S.B. Mujumdar, the college is recognized by the National Medical Commission (NMC) and holds an A++ Grade accreditation from NAAC. Dr. Mujumdar was inspired to create this institution after watching a film about India's first female doctor, Ms. Anandibai Joshi.
Courses offered
SMCW Pune offers the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) as its only undergraduate program. This is a full-time 5.5-year course, including a compulsory one-year rotating medical internship. The program has 150 seats, with 127 for domestic students and 23 for NRI/OCI/PIO candidates.
Admission process
Admission to the MBBS program is based on NEET-UG scores. All seats are filled through counseling conducted by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) under the All India Quota. Eligible candidates must have passed 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English, achieving at least 50% marks (40% for SC/ST/OBC). Only female candidates are eligible, and the minimum age for admission is 17 as of December 31, 2025. Admissions are merit-based through NEET-UG.
Scholarships
SMCW Pune offers the Dr. Anandi Gopal Scholarship to five top-ranking female NEET students admitted to the college. This scholarship covers 100% of the academic fees for the MBBS program. Recipients must agree to a one-year service bond at the Symbiosis University Hospital and Research Centre (SUHRC) as a Junior Resident after completing their MBBS and internship.
