Sylhet Women's Medical College (SWMC)

Sylhet Women's Medical College (SWMC) is a private medical school exclusively for female students, located in Sylhet, Bangladesh. Established in 2005, it offers a five-year Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) program in English.

 

  • Location: Mirboxtola, in central Sylhet.
  • Establishment: The college was founded in 2005 by Holy Sylhet Holding Limited (HSHL).
  • Affiliation:
    • Since 2019, it has been affiliated with Sylhet Medical University (SMU).
    • Previously, it was affiliated with Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST).
  • Recognition: The MBBS degree is recognized by the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BMDC), the World Health Organization (WHO), and the National Medical Commission (NMC) in India.

Program and admission

  • MBBS Course: The five-year course is followed by a compulsory one-year internship. For Indian students, the program follows an NMC-approved syllabus.
  • Indian Student Admission: Indian applicants must qualify for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET).
  • Eligibility Criteria: General criteria for international students typically include:
    • Studied Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.
    • Minimum aggregate GPA of 7.0 or higher in SSC/HSC (10th/12th grade).
    • Minimum GPA of 3.5 in Biology in HSC.
    • At least 17 years old by December 31st of the admission year.
